To tune the guitar we turn each tuning peg (tightening/ loosening) until each string is at the proper note.

The standard tuning of the strings, whether electric or acoustic, and whether the strings are nylon or steel, follows the sequence of notes E,A,D,G,B,E. These go from low to high, or put another way, fat strings to thin strings.

Alternate tunings used for various styles range greatly, but for the majority of play this standard tuning is your friend, and is thus the perfect place to start.
